A TEENAGE girl was lured into a sordid affair with a 38-year-old man who bought her presents and tickets for a top pop group.

The 13-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was enticed into Brian Telford's clutches with promises of marriage and extravagant gifts.

Newcastle Crown Court heard how Telford supplied her with tickets to see her favourite pop group, Steps, at Newcastle Arena, and bought a tent for her and her 11-year-old brother.

John Aitken, prosecuting, showed the court 20 pages of love letters exchanged between the man and the youngster.

The court heard how Telford promised to stay in the tent, pitched in his own back garden, to protect the youngsters, but instead enticed the girl into his home where they had sex while watching soft porn films.

On another occasion, Telford had sex with the girl inside the tent as her brother slept beside them - and then pretended to be having an epileptic fit when the boy woke up.

Mr Aitken told the court how the youngster was put under "emotional pressure" by Telford due to the vast difference in age and experience.

Telford, of Third Avenue, Chester-le-Street, County Durham, denies three charges of sexual intercourse with a girl and two charges of indecency with a child between June and September last year.

The trial continues.
