VILLAGE PC Keith Todd is in for a hair-raising experience at Sedgefield Medieval Fair this weekend.

He has agreed to take part in a charity head shave to raise money for fire-damaged Hardwick Primary School.

The school was devastated by an arson attack in January, and villagers are raising money to assist the children's move into temporary classrooms.

PC Todd said: "Being the village bobby and having had dealings with the school, I thought it would be appropriate for me to do my bit.

"I approached the fundraisers and said I'm not really good at anything, but I would be willing to have my head shaved, and they thought it was a brilliant idea. Since then, it has snowballed. All the pubs, schools and various organisations have got sponsor forms, so I can't back out of it now."

The fair takes place in the village on Saturday, starting at 9.45pm with the parade of floats.

The charity head shave will take place on the village square around mid-day - in front of hundreds of spectators.

PC Todd said: "We're trying to generate enough money to put paper and pens on the table. The building itself, and things like tables and chairs, are being provided by the council and insurers, but it is all the small items we are trying to get."
