Bishop Auckland sixth former Jill Drury won bronze in a Science Olympiad for the nation's most talented physicists.
Her brother, Paul, who is in year 11 at St John's RC Comprehensive School, won a merit in the national competition.
Sixth former John Lamb also won an award in the test, and Gerard Quinn gained a certificate recognising his achievements.
