YOUNGSTERS had a taste of porridge when they were locked up in a police station for charity.
Seven year ten pupils from Hylton Red House School spent yesterday in the cells at Southwick Police Station, in Sunderland, to raise money for the Barbara Priestman School, which caters for children with special needs.
The event was organised by Education Business Connections, which promotes links between schools and the business sector.
The students were booked in just after 8am when they were read their rights and had to hand over all their possessions.
They spent the day in individual cells until they were released at 3.30pm.
Helen Addy, of Education Business Connections, said: "The police officers took it all very seriously so it gave the students a chance to experience a bit of what it is really like to be in that situation."
