TEESWATER sheep will not be automatically slaughtered if they are within a foot-and-mouth infection zone.
The breed is now one of 30 exempt from MAFF regulations, even if they are within 3km of infected animals, or on land adjacent to infected stock.
MAFF will also pay for the veterinary costs of examining Teeswater flocks.
