THE Ramblers' Association has welcomed Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's decision to re-open some of its footpaths and woodland walks.
Twenty urban paths and 11 routes either over, or next to, cropped or ploughed land are to be re-opened after the council conducted a series of individual risk assessments and took advice from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
Countryside sites at Flatts Lane, Normanby, and Guisborough Branch Walkway are also being assessedwith a view to re-opening.
Dr John Birtill, a local member of the Ramblers Association, said many of the footpaths should not have been closed in the first place because they are urban paths which go nowhere near animals.
An updated list of re-opening paths will appear on the web site at www.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk
