Worthington CIU Summer League - Wheatley Hill A established themselves as the early leaders in Division One following their odd point win at Witton Gilbert, who took the first and last points through Ian Renwick and Willis Joynes.

The Hill's winners were Ronnie Peacock, Jack Wright and Dave Walker, moving them one point ahead of Fishburn A, Stanley Central and Old Shildon.

Fishburn A brought the visiting Willington down to earth after their great win over reigning champions, Old Shildon last week with an odd point victory. Jeremy Martin and Paul Atkinson took points for the visitors, while John Carter, with a 32 break, John Griffin and Brian Quest won for Fishburn.

Stanley Central moved up to share the second place following their victory for the loss of only one point at Wheatley Hill B, who had Tony Ellison as their only winner. The scorers for the Central were Walter Cornell, Michael Vicary, Harry Grimes and Jim Dufton.

Old Shildon recovered from their defeat last week to drop only one point to the visiting Shotton Palms. Michael Pratt put in breaks of 32 and 24 to take the first point for the home side. In the second frame Jimmy Evans of Shotton put in a 25 break but lost to Frank Nicholson. Stephen Bennett and Billy Goggins increased Shildon's lead until John Armstrong took the final point for the visitors.

Spennymoor A are struggling to find their best form and went down by the odd point to the visiting Newton Aycliffe, who had wins from John Briddick, Marc Howe and Ronnie Hall, while the Moors had Dennis Dodd and Paul Biddle to thank for their two points.

Sherburn Village became the one point leaders of the Second Division after they beat the visiting Newhouse A in the decider and pushed them down to second spot. John Bower and Adrian Twist put the home side two up but then Ian Dinsdale and John Maddox levelled the match. In the decider Alan Greener took Sherburn to victory by beating Jimmy Hassen.

Newhouse B became one of four teams sharing the second place after they beat the visiting Ferryhjill by the odd point. Alan McCluskey and John O'Driscoll put Newhouse B ahead with les Lewis reducing the arrears. Glen Morton then assured the home side of victory. In the final frame the home side's David Jackson made a 32 break but Ferryhill's Bernie Jones fought back to take the point.

Crook Belle Vue made a good start against the visiting Brandon when Harold Lomax took the first point for them. However, that proved to be their only score as Brandon moved up to share second place with wins from Brian Graham, Graham Jackson, John Hall and Kevin Sample.

Langley Park share second place in the Second Division despite going down in the decider at Meadowfield. Stephen Coates with a 31 break and Kevin Keers put the Park ahead but then Ian Hodgson, on his debut, and Malcolm Hughes levelled the match. In the decider Meadowfield's Robert Stout beat Robert Roche.

West Auckland moved up to be one of three teams at the top of the Third Division with a home whitewash victory over Leeholme A. West's points came from Alan Robson, Andrew Sugden, David Geraty, Andrew Dent and Kelvin Fletcher.

Spennymoor B also recorded a whitewash victory on their visit to Tow Law and share the top spot. The Moors winners were Wayne Parry, Micky Anderson, Kurt McCormack, Alan Rowell and Phil Wilson.

Fishburn B also share the top spot after they only dropped one point on their visit to Sacriston. The home side's lone winner was Mark Brown, while George Whitelock, Alan Wilson, Keith Binks and Wayne Oliver scored for the visitors.

Crowtrees are just one point behind the three leaders following their whitewash victory at Leeholme B with wins from Dave Taylor, Keith McLauchlan, John Hall, Sonny Hann and Sean Johnston.

Barnard Castle Folly's pulled off the surprise when they beat the visiting First Division leaders, Hopetown by two points. This reversal meant that Hopetown slipped a place in the table when Albert Hill replaced them. Albert Hill scored a home whitewash over Darlington Cricket Club to lead the table by a single point, while Hopetown are two ahead of the third placed Darlington Snooker Club A.

The top two places in the Second Division remain the same after both had two points wins over teams from Bishop Auckland Gents Club. Shildon Elm Road lead the table by one point after their win at the Gents B team, while Darlington East End are in second place after beating the visiting Gents A by two points. Barnard Castle Glaxo and Northgate share third place, one point behind East End.
