Darlington RA had a season to remember. They clinched The Hathaway Auckland and District League crown on Monday night - adding to the three cups already tucked away.

RA's trio of trophies were the Darlington Charity Cup, sponsored by Darlington Building Society, beating Hartlepool Arriva 4-2 at Feethams, Auckland Charity Cup and the Sacriston Aging Miners Cup.

Darlington RA (pictured) have selected the British Heart Foundation as their charity to benefit from a donation of £500 raised by the Charity Cup Committee.

And the reason behind their move is quiet simple for Paul Adamson, one of their players, is recovering from a heart attack which resulted in missing the gripping run-in.

The Darlington Charity Cup was founded in 1908 and is one of the longest running charity cups in the region.

Darlington Building Society has sponsored the tournament for the past five seasons and is keen to support such a high-profile grass roots football competition.

David Copeland, Marketing and Communications manager at Darlington Building Society, presented the trophy to John Little the Darlington RA captain.

Martyn Jackson who, along with manager David Woodcock, lives less than a stones throw away from the ground said: "There were, may be, 300 people at the league game on Monday and people cannot remember a better season. In a 12-day spell we played seven games including three cup-finals and a semi-final."

Adamson, top scorer with 38 goals, missed the exciting run-in but was able to watch his side lift the Charity Cup.
