APPROVAL has been given to build more houses in a rapidly-expanding village.
Darlington Borough Council's planning applications committee granted permission yesterday for Mandale Properties to build 22 detached properties in Middleton St George, near Darlington.
The site, which is near Yarm Road, used to be industrial premises and is now set to be redeveloped.
Planning permission has been granted with various conditions, including an obligation by the developer to provide a bus shelter.
Mandale Properties will be required to make a financial contribution towards the extension of Middleton St George Primary School.
The extension is needed because the number of new properties which have been built in the village during the last couple of years means there are more young children living in Middleton St George.
