An amazing match on Moor Monkton's Carpvale Pool saw the six hour best of 135.0.0 raised to a breathtaking 195.15.0, writes JEFF HERBERT.

No surprises who took it - the one and only Dave Wright of Diawa Team Armley, a master on this carp filled paradise.

The warning signs were there midweek when Dave won Wednesday's Open bagging 81.12.0.

Come Sunday Dave pulled out peg 49 and found the carp shoaled on the shallow ledges by the rushes on the two islands opposite.

Pushing the pole and floating bread over at 18 metres, 41 quality fish responded. A few fell to corn and the historic catch included five low doubles up to 12.0.0.

The rest of the competitors were also fairly active - 32 weights into double figures and 50.0.0 only good enough for tenth place.

Others in the frame included Gary Watson 81.9.0 Steve Mazza 73.12.0 & Dave Armitage 62.2.0.

Darlington Brown Trout hosted their Knockout Cup split between Snipe and Lane Fox Ponds on Sunday restricted to 48 rods due to the unavailability of other waters through foot-and-mouth.

Darlington's Bob Blenkinsop spotted carp cruising on the surface after drawing the car park peg on Neasham's Lane Fox Pond.

Rigging up a waggler and floating bread four hefty specimens took the bait but unfortunately only two found the landing net. Nevertheless it was a winning smile as two commons registered 18.11.0.

In total contrast Mick Graham of Darlington was into bream. Drawing 3 pegs past the sunken shed on Lane Fox groundbait feeder and red maggot brought 14 fish totalling 17.14.0 from Terry Longstaffe (Darlington) 11.6.0.

Heatwave conditions over the weekend resulted in many of the area's carp waters enjoying a lot of surface activity and floating dog biscuits proved irresistible on Lingerfield Gravels.

Claro's Martin Dodsworth on peg 55 in the big bay latched onto three heavyweights to take the Harrogate and Claro event with a super 32.4.0. Dave Hare weighed in a brace for 20.4.0 while the biggest fish of the match a mirror of 13.11.0 fell to 4th place Mick Hare.
