A SHOPLIFTER'S criminal past landed him in jail after his probation form was found in the jacket he was wearing after he fled from a shop.
Steven Wastell, 19, was chased by passers-by after he stole a toy from Woolworths in Jarrow in September 1999.
Wastell was already on probation after stealing £140 worth of toiletries from Boots in Hebburn in June of that year.
Wastell, of Brackley Avenue, South Shields, was already behind bars for further shoplifting offences and was due to be released on June 22. But Judge Esmond Faulks jailed him for a further four months, to be served at the end of that sentence
