A YOUNG mother was raped while her attacker's grandmother slept in the next room, a court heard yesterday.
Robert McQuire, 22, allegedly attacked the woman, in her 20s, at his home after a night out on July 21, last year.
Newcastle Crown Court heard how he growled as he bit the woman.
Prosecutor Roger Elsey said: "The defendant's grandmother was in her room and heard the woman say 'get off'. It appears the defendant, having had sex with her, was attacking her."
The court heard how Mr McQuire's grandmother, who has since died, had to go into the room and tell him to come out.
Mr McQuire, of Marx Crescent, South Stanley, County Durham, told police he knew he had lost his temper, but did not think he had raped her.
He denies rape and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The trial continues
