A RECYCLING project at BP Wilton raised more than £750 for a local charity.

Instead of scrapping them, the company sold three portable cabins to local businesses, which were delivered at no charge by haulage contractors, P Hoggart Haulage.

The sales generated £750, which will be used by the Friends of Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre in Middlesbrough to buy a motorised exerciser for wheelchair-bound patients.

Paul Irwin, engineering support co,ordinator at BP's Wilton International site, said: "By restoring and selling the cabins instead of scrapping them, this has allowed BP to give the proceeds to a worthy cause.

"The Friends Therapy Centre is a valuable part of the community, and it offers treatment and tremendous support to Multiple Sclerosis sufferers all over Teesside."

Mr Irwin has developed close links with the Therapy Centre as his wife works there as a physiotherapist on Saturdays
