A WILDLIFE group is looking for volunteers to carry out essential work at one of its smallest nature reserves.

The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is planning to pull up thistles from the Jeffrey Bog nature reserve, near Malton, as they pose a threat to native wildflowers.

The eight-acre reserve - one of the smallest in the trust's 80-strong portfolio - is two miles east of Kirkham Abbey and one mile north of Westow.

Kerry Felber, volunteers development officer for the trust, said: "We are hoping lots of people will join us at our Jeffrey Bog reserve. It is simple work, and gloves and other tools will be provided.

"We just could not get all the work done if it wasn't for our army of volunteers. They do lots of jobs and get the chance to learn new skills."

The work will be carried out on Saturday, from 10am to 3.30pm. Anyone interested should meet at the reserve entrance, opposite Church Farm on the Westow to Malton road.
