A HISTORY fair is being held this weekend as part of Hartlepool's 800th charter anniversary celebrations.

The event will be run by the Headland Local History Society and will take place in Hartlepool Borough hall on Saturday, between 11am and 4pm.

The hopes to make the fair an annual event, and has attracted displays from organisations including the Police History Society, Coats of Arms and history publishers.

The Mayor of Hartlepool Councillor Douglas Ferriday, a local historian, will open the fair.

Chairman of the history group Councillor Kevin Kelly said: "The group is looking forward to the event because it is the first time that we have attempted anything like this. Hopefully, this will become an annual event.

"St Hilda's and St Mary's Churches are going to be open during the event so people attending the fair will have the chance to visit both churches."

Anyone interested in hosting a display is asked to call Coun Kelly on (01429) 428489.
