A suspect in the murder of North-East man Freddie Knights was arrested by armed police in Essex at the weekend.

The 37-year-old Tyneside man was being questioned last night by murder squad detectives on Tyneside.

Police also arrested two other men - one from Milton Keynes and the other from Watford - in connection with assisting an alleged offender.

Mr Knights, 38, was shot in front of his wife, Grace, when he went to his mother's home in Longbenton, north of Newcastle, on September 20.

Four men have already been charged with conspiracy to murder Mr Knights and have been remanded awaiting trial.

Two woman have been charged with assisting an offender.

A number of other people, from the Newcastle and Seahouses areas, have been arrested and released, pending further inquiries
