SCIENCE Minister Lord Sainsbury learned about industry on two different scales on a visit to the region yesterday.
Accompanied by Ashok Kumar, Labour's candidate for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, and Vera Baird, standing in Redcar, he began by touring the Huntsman Chemical group site at Wilton, near Redcar.
Lord Sainsbury met Kevin Ninow, Huntsman's European Petrochemicals vice-president, and Jon Prows, the company's vice-president for sales and marketing, and toured the company's laboratories.
At Skelton, east Cleveland, Lord Sainsbury met staff at Cleveland Circuits, part of the Cleveland Technologies Group, which specialises in the manufacture of printboards. The company recently expanded its operations in east Cleveland and took on 25 local people. It has doubled its workforce to more than 150 in the past five years.
Dr Kumar said: "This is an example of real job creation in action.
