TRADING standards and police chiefs are stepping up patrols to check vehicles carrying livestock throughout North Yorkshire.
Complaints have been made about the illegal movement of animals, which could lead to the spread of foot-and-mouth disease.
Stuart Pudney, head of trading standards and regulatory services, said: "There has been great concern locally about allegations of illegal movements. Where people are found to be breaking transport rules, it will be treated extremely seriously.
