SOCCER bad boy Frank McAvennie teamed up with television cherubs Ant and Dec for a charity football match yesterday.

Declan Donnelly and Anthony McPartlin joined former Newcastle United stars, who came out of retirement for the game at Gateshead Stadium.

Former Toon favourites Peter Beardsley, John Barnes, Ian Rush and Chris Waddle dusted off their Magpies kits to help raise money for the NSPCC and Marie Curie Cancer Care charities.

Thousands turned out to see four celebrity teams compete for a trophy.

Also among the players were former England striker Ian Wright, former Wimbledon hardman turned Hollywood actor Vinnie Jones, and Michael Greco, from EastEnders.

Former Celtic star McAvennie, of Low Fell, Gateshead, forgot his recent drugs trial to join in the fun.

Organisers of the Panasonic World Football Tournament hoped to raise at least £25,000 from the event.
