CHILDREN at a special needs pre-school group are exploring sights and sounds with the help of a large range of new toys.

Youngsters up to the age of four have been visiting Bishop Auckland health centre since February, where they enjoy the stimulation provided by specially selected sensory equipment.

Now a £600 grant from the North Eastern Co-op's community development fund has bought the group a sound and light dome to add to its collection.

The dome has an integral stereo system which produces light and vibration in response to children's voices.

The Co-op scheme has given out more than £15,000 to organisations around the North-East during the past 12 months.
