A WOMAN is demanding action following an attack by schoolchildren, in which she was showered with stones.

Marilyn Wood, of Northwood, Acklam, said last week's incident was the latest attack on her home, which has also been hit with eggs.

She said: "I was sitting in the garden and suddenly stones came flying over the fence. One hit me on the head.

"My husband chased the kids and went to Hall Garth School, where we believed they came from. They were very good, but this sort of thing has happened before."

Mrs Wood said after months of complaints by residents, Middlesbrough Borough Council seems to be taking notice.

"They have asked to meet us and they want to support us, but what they can do, I don't know," she said.

Mrs Wood said the problems begin when the area's 4,000 schoolchildren are released from its four secondary schools.

"You don't know how they are going to behave when they are doing drugs outside your garden," she said.

Supported by the Acklam 20-20 group and ward councillors, Mrs Wood hopes to work with the schools.

Graham Nellist, assistant head at Hall Garth School, said: "I think on this occasion, the pupils did belong to us, but there are no doubt others where our students are not responsible. It is a problem, and one that we try to tackle with our neighbours."
