POLICE are studying CCTV footage to try to identify a gang who attacked a man.
The 22-year-old was attacked behind the Brus shops in West View, Hartlepool at 5.30am yesterday.
He was taken to the University Hospital of Hartlepool suffering from head injuries and after an initial examination he was transferred to intensive care.
Police believe several men were involved in the assault and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Tony Green of Hartlepool CID said: "The area is comprehensively covered by CCTV and officers will be scrutinising the tapes to see if the attackers can be identified."
