The Readers Durham County League Under-18s - Tim Smalley was in outstanding form with bat and ball when Tudhoe defeated Coundon by 54 runs.

The talented youngster topscored with 63 and Paul Hindmarsh contributed 31 to the Tudhoe total of 127-6. Smalley (4-21) and Hindmarsh, with 3-18 then played leading roles when Coundon were dismissed for 73 which included 35 by Petrie.

Jim Provett carried his bat for 32 when Sedgefield posted 109-8 at home to Brandon for whom Paul Moralee took 3-36 in five overs. Brandon put up a bold fight but at stumps, were just 101-7 which included 52 by Tompkins. Provett was also in outstanding form with the ball and in five overs, he returned the outstanding figures of 5-22.

Evenwood won a low-scoring game against Mainsforth by five wickets. Tony McMahon, with 3-8 from five overs restricted the visitors to 63-7 and he then top-scored with 29 in Evenwood's reply of 64-5 with two of the wickets falling to Northcote for 14 runs.

Ian Corrick was another player to perform well with both bat and ball when Esh Winning had 27 runs in hand at home to Hunwick. He finished with 50 not out and Stephen Gray added 23 to the Esh total of 117-5. Corrick then captured 4-21 from five overs and although Chris Pratt carried his bat for 55, Hunwick could only muster 90-5.

Bishop Auckland won a close contest with Langley Park by 13 runs. Michael Robson, with 52 and Taylor (29 not out) enabled Bishops to reach 108-4 with the wickets being shared by David Jones, Andrew Smith and Greg Coates.

Coates put Langley in with a chance when he scored 41 and Chris Davis added 29 but when time was called, the home side were only 95-9 as Brennan returned 3-26, Bowman 2-14 and Atkinson 3-16.

Newton Aycliffe overtook the Crook Town total of 76-6 with four wickets intact. Michael Buston (25) top-scored for Crook and in the Aycliffe attack, none did better than Reynolds whose five overs produced figures of 3-15.

When they went into bat, Newton Aycliffe lost six wickets before winning and their main scorers were Bainbridge with 27 not out and Palmer (24). Trevor Prest took 3-20 in five overs and Michael Cooper had 2-16 from three overs in the Crook attack.

Wilson (24) top-performed when Ushaw Moor ended on 87-5 with Wearmouth claiming 3-32 in five overs for Willington who, following an exciting finale, ended on 85-8. Wearmouth was the leading scorer with 20 runs and for Ushaw Moor Gill captured 2-13 and Rafferty 2-25.

Foster's Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League Under-18 Cup

Sacriston reached the next stage with an 18-runs victory over Crookhall. Scott Emmerson (26) and Gary Kirk (20) were the main contributors to the Sacriston total of 86-8 and for Crookhall, Stewart had figurs of 3-14 and Richardson 2-14. The pair each bowled five overs.

Replying, Crookhall were restricted to 68-8 by the bowling of Gary Kirk with 3-16, Andrew Dixon (2-13) and Martin Hubber who ended with 2-17. The trio all bowled five overs.

Blaydon saw off the challenge of Greenside by eight wickets. Batting first, Greenside raised 89-7 with most of the runs coming from Gavin Jones who finished unbeaten with 43. Gary Stewart conceded just six runs in five overs for three wickets and Baker also bowled well for Blaydon returning 2-19 in his five-overs spell.

When Blaydon went to the wicket, they won, losing just two wickets as David Bailey scored 30 and Gary Stewart 28.

Federation Special Durham Senior League Under-15s

Michael Lowther hit a magnificent 146 and Matthew Hooper carried his bat for 54 when Eppleton produced the huge total of 246-2 at home to Hetton Lyons who were restrictd to 71-3.

Burnmoor defeated Philadelphia by eight wickets after bowling out their visitors for just 48 but the lowest score of the night was recorded by Sunderland who managed just 24 at home to Whitburn. Phil Neasham took three wickets for five runs and Ian Elliott captured three wickets for eight runs before Whitburn went on to win by ten wickets.

Runs were more plentiful at Boldon where 229 were scored. Batting first, South Shields posted 142-5 which included 40 by Paul Craig and 38 from David Laws.

Responding, Boldon were restricted to 87 all out as Chris Nichol took three wickets for 16 runs and Michael Jude captured three wickets for only 18 runs.

The Readers Durham County League Under-15s

Carl McGregor was in magnificent form for Etherley who won by 83 runs at Langley Park. The talented youngster finished unbeaten on 135 and assisted by Luke with 25 not out, propelled Etherley to the massive total of 200 for the loss of just one wicket.

In a game which produced no fewer than 317 runs, Langley Park replied with 117-5 including 37 by Danny Wilkinson and 26 from Greg Coates.

Tudhoe had 25 runs in hand of Esh Winning after posting 101-8 which included 32 by Daniel Fox. Christopher Hurst returned 3-19 and Hall 3-11 for Esh Winning who in reply, finished on 76-9 as John Allison took 2-17 and James Williamson 2-10, the pair each bowling four overs.

Shildon were all out for 74 after Brandon had realised 107-3. Scott Nattrass top-scored for Brandon with 28 and Martin Smailes added 31 for Shildon who found the bowling of Andrew Clennell, with five wickets for a meagre 13 runs and Nattrass (4-9) problematic.

Crook Town overtook the Mainsforth total of 109 with seven wickets left mainly as a result of a fine unbeaten 65 from Mark Bowey. Christopher Guy took four wickets for 17 runs when Mainsforth batted first.

Boddingtons Durham Coast League Under-15s

Hylton reached three figures at Bill Quay, which was just as well since they had only four runs to spare at the end of a closely-fought game.

Conlin (37 not out) was the main contributor to the visitors' total of 105 and for Bill Quay, Kevin Self claimed two wickets for just 15 runs. When they replied, the home side finished with 96-8 which included 51 by Shoaib Hussain.

Conlin claimed three wickets for a miserly six runs and Brodrick captured two wickets for 14 runs.

South Hetton had nine wickets to spare in their game at home to Marsden who totalled 71-7 with two of the wickets falling to John Maddison for only nine runs. Kyle Bradbury maintained his super form carrying his bat for 36 in South Hetton's match-winning reply of 73-1. Daniel Stewart and Karl Gippert made useful contributions.

Anthony Ord (21) and Craig Robinson (16) scored most of the runs in the Seaham Park innings which realised 62-5 against Easington for whom Brown took 3-10 and Price 2-13. Easington won conceding only one wicket when McLean scored 26 not out and Harbottle added 17 runs.

Tudball, with 2-12 was the most productive bowler when Castle Eden reduced Murton to 58-8 before winning by three wickets. Brown was their top scorer with 21 and for Murton, James Watson had figures of 3-9 in four overs.

Federation Special Durham Senior League Under-18s

Chester-le-Street scored just 71-9 but won by 36 runs when they bowled out Hetton Lyons for only 35. Stephen Lee Merrington took three wickets for four runs, Philip McGowan had figurs of 3-6 and Graham Race captured 2-13. The best bowling performance of the night, however, was by Hetton Lyons' Riddell who picked up five wickets for a meagre 18 runs.

Whitburn just had the edge on Felling by 13 runs. Connon returned 3-7 when Whitburn were all out for 87 and replying, Felling managed only 74-9 as Phil Neasham captured three wickets for nine runs and Paul Brown took 3-19.

Durham City were reduced to 38-9 against Sunderland at Ashbrooke. Keiron Hodgson, Stuart Ferguson and John Atkinson shared seven wickets for Sunderland who batting first, realised 103-6 mainly through John Atkinson with 62.

Richard Hilton bowled a good end for Durham City taking three wickets for 37 runs.

South Shields lost just one wicket overtaking the Horden total of 68-9. Johnny Wightman took 3-14 and David Maughan 3-17 before Maughan carried his bat for 33 and Saikat Sarkar scored 20 in the Shields reply of 69-1.

Hunter (43) and Gray (28) enabled Eppleton to total 125-6 and for Boldon, Chris Mackley returned the tidy figures of 3-28. In response, Boldon ended on 93-5 of which Philip Randell top-scored with 22. Gibson had figures of 3-25 in the Eppleton attack.

Umer Akhtar, with 4-36 and 32 runs starred in Seaham Harbour's game but Burnmoor won by four runs when Anderson claimed three wickets for 11 runs. Batting first, Burnmoor finishd with 107-7 and Seaham replied with 103-7.

Despite Robbie Day taking 2-36 from six overs and scoring 31 not out, Philadelphia lost by 47 runs at home to Gateshead Fell for whom Phil Taylor scored a half century and Phil Hudson contributed 31 to a total of 108-5.
