POLICE are trying to trace a man in connection with the theft of a cash card and subsequent withdrawal of £400.

A wallet containing the card was taken from a house in Darlington in a burglary on May 8.

Later that evening, a man went to the cashpoint of the Darlington Building Society, in Tubwell Row, in the town centre, and used the stolen cash card.

He made three separate withdrawals totalling £200 and returned again just after midnight to take a further £200.

Police have issued closed-circuit television pictures of the man they wish to trace in connection with the theft.

He is in his late 20s to early 30s, of medium build, with a shaven head. He was wearing a white long-sleeved open- necked shirt and sunglasses.

l Police are also trying to trace two men in connection with the theft of 32 cans of lager from a Darlington store.

The lager, worth £27, was taken from the First Choice General Dealers Store, in North Road, at 8.40pm on February 28.

Two men were seen to enter the shop and then leave without paying for the goods.

The first was said to be about 30 years old, 5ft 8in, of thin build with short dark hair.

He was thought to be wearing a black fleece jacket which had white stripes on the front.

The second man was about 35 to 40 years old, 5ft 4in, of medium build with short or thinning dark hair.

He was wearing a white jacket and dark trousers.
