TWO men have been stabbed in separate incidents on Tyneside.

The first stabbing involved a 27-year-old man who was found in a pool of blood at the junction of Stanhope Street and Stanhope Way, in the Graft area of Newcastle's West End.

He had been stabbed repeatedly in the chest, stomach and back by an unknown number of attackers.

He was taken to Newcastle General Hospital's intensive care unit, but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The other attack saw a 62-year-man knifed while walking along Elswick Road, near the junction of Sovereign Place, close to the Golden Spices take-away, also in the West End.

He was approached by two youths who asked him for a cigarette. When he refused and walked away he was stabbed in the buttocks.

His injuries were not serious.

Anyone with information on the attacks should contact Newcastle CID on 0191-454 7555.
