THE first piece of public art in Guisborough has been officially unveiled.

Youngsters from the town's Park Lane Infants, Northgate Juniors and Laurence Jackson School have been involved in the regeneration project organised by Guisborough Town Council for the past three years.

The mural, which adorns a wall in Bakehouse Square, depicts different aspects of the town's history using tiles designed by the youngsters.

The tiles have then been cast in a special aluminium to stop them eroding and being damaged.

Councillor Denise Bunn, deputy mayor of the town council, officially unveiled the mural in front of an audience of children, councillors and other invited guests.

She thanked the children for all their hard work on the project. Artist Andy McKeown helped the children and said: "It looks better than I thought it would and the kids have done a great job."
