MARK Wilson and Jonathan Greening are expected to take their seats on the plane for Holland this morning after becoming Middlesbrough players.

The 22-year-old pair were putting the finishing touches to a combined £4m move from Manchester United last night, and should make their debuts against Willem II Tilburg tomorrow.

Boro boss Steve McClaren has been chasing both midfielders since he took control in June and it will be a massive relief to have finally nailed the duo down.

There has been no official word from the club announcing the double capture, but it is thought all negotiations have been concluded in time for Wilson and Greening to travel to Holland.

At the same time as McClaren was finalising his second and third summer signings, after the £6.5m arrival of Gareth Southgate, he was also picking up £1.8m from the sale of winger Keith O'Neill and midfielder Phil Stamp. Irishman O'Neill agreed terms with Coventry City boss Gordon Strachan yesterday after Boro accepted a fee believed to be in the region of £1m.

And Coventry chairman Bryan Richardson said: "O'Neill is currently in the final stages of his medical and we expect him to sign for the club."

Stamp on the other hand was on the verge of joining Mark McGhee's Millwall after being impressed with the former Wolverhampton Wanderers' chief.

McClaren, however, was unable to bring former Sunderland winger Allan Johnston back to the North-East.

It was initially thought that only a medical stood in the way of the Scot's £1m move from Glasgow Rangers, but it has emerged that both parties were unable to agree on wage demands.

Meanwhile, former Boro boss Bryan Robson has been invited to make a return to Manchester United as a part-time coach.
