THE maternity unit at Darlington Memorial Hospital has become the first in the country to win an award recognising its commitment to patients.
The unit has been awarded practice development status by the University of Teesside for excellence and innovation. It recognises a 'team of health professionals who are dedicated to putting patients first.'
Rob McSherry, principle lecturer in practice development, said: "Practice development unit staff are committed to patient focused care and developing best practice in their field through research and development. The maternity unit at Darlington Memorial Hospital clearly demonstrates this commitment."
The trust wide maternity service also received a Charter Mark last year for excellent customer service.
