WITH the new season fast approaching, training began in earnest at Northallerton Rugby Club in July.

There is much optimism for the new campaign in Yorkshire Division Two with the arrival of coaches John Widdall and Kevin Robson, who join the club fresh from great success with their previous club, Darlington Mowden Park.

Training nights are on Mondays and Thursdays with a 6.45 meet for a 7pm prompt start. All existing players and new members are invited to come along and improve their game and fitness levels.

At the club's annual meeting, Steve Robinson was re-elected first team skipper for a seventh season, with the vastly-improved Paul Dixon as his deputy. Second team captain is Rob Close, with Jim Haddow imparting his experience to the third team.

Dave Bowes is at the helm as chairman of selectors, while Stuart Baker will revive the veterans team who will take over the Fettlers fixtures. He can be contacted on 01609 776333.

The ladies are once again captained by Emma Radcliffe and they train on Thursdays at 7pm, when new members will be made welcome.

Junior training begins on the first Sunday of September at 10am, with the reins taken up by Chris Wincup and Vince Thirlby. Ex-England and British Lions international Jeremy Guscott will be at the club on Saturday, October 27 to help with the youngsters.

Further information can be obtained from the club on 01609 773496, where chairman John Winspear will be happy to help with any queries.
