A JUNCTION in Hartlepool has passed a safety review, despite concerns expressed by drivers and pedestrians.

But officials at Hartlepool Borough Council said they would continue monitoring the Huckelhoven Way/York Road junction, and explore ways of increasing peak-time traffic flows.

Some motorists had complained of traffic queues, and pedestrians of drivers jumping amber and red lights.

A report on the findings of the safety review will be presented to the council's regeneration board tomorrow.

It reveals there has only been three minor injury accidents since traffic lights replaced a roundabout in a £500,000 scheme last September, even though an average 25,000 vehicles pass through the signals every day.
