ROMANCE blossomed at the flicks for a couple who are now celebrating their golden years.

As Humphrey Bogart and other stars from the forties and fifties graced the big screen, Dennis and Nancy Carr, from West End Villas, Crook, were enjoying weekly meetings at the town's Top House cinema.

The couple, now both 71, were married at St Catherine's Church, Crook, on Saturday, August 4, and spent their honeymoon in Whitley Bay.

They have two sons, Howard and Paul, and seven grandchildren.

For their anniversary, one of their sons sent a white Rolls Royce to take them to the Uplands Hotel, Crook, for a meal with 30 friends and family.

The secret to their happy marriage is an easy-going friendship. Mr Carr said: "There cannot be anybody in this country happier. We have never made demands on each other and we have never shouted at each other. A happy marriage is being prepared to give in and let your partner have their say."

Rather than gifts Mr and Mrs Carr asked for donations, which will go to the British Heart Foundation
