A 30-year-old electrician will appear in court tomorrow on Monday charged with the murder of a young woman killed in a ''frenzied knife attack'' at her parents' home.

Anthony Hilton was arrested shortly after the body of Nicola Impett, 27, was discovered by officers in a bedroom at a house in the Haughton area of Darlington, County Durham, on Friday morning.

Hilton, of Sparrowhall Drive, in the Winfield area of Darlington, is due before the town's magistrates on Monday morning.

Det Supt Tom Ryan, leading the investigation, said it was clear from the examination of the scene that Ms Impett had ''tried to fight off her assailant''.

A post-mortem examination carried out by a Home Office pathologist at Darlington Memorial Hospital found that the victim had died of multiple stab wounds.

Police said Ms Impett had been staying at the four-bedroom detached house in Winchester Way to look after the family's pets while her parents were on holiday.

Her parents travelled back from Wales last night after being told of their daughter's death.

It is believed the attack took place some time after 9pm on Thursday when Ms Impett last spoke to her mother on the telephone.
