Durham and District League - King George V celebrated only their third victory of the season when they defeated the visiting strugglers, Langley Park by six points.

However the victory is unlikely to save them from relegation as they have only two matches left, against top teams, Leeholme and Glenholme and would need to win both by maximum scores and still rely on others being soundly beaten. The defeat for Langley Park, who were just promoted at the end of last season, looks likely to put them down for they trail Pelton Fell by three points.

Langley Park went down by 74 shots to 67 at King George V.

Rink scores (King George V names first): C. Ford 18 N. Nicholson 16; E.G. Wilkinson 21 G. Cartmell 16; P. Wilkinson 23 W. Dover 10; I.C. Young 12 D. Henderson 25.

Leeholme lead the First Division by five points from Ever/Ready Craghead, who are six points ahead of Crook Glenholme.

In the Second Division derby Nevilles Cross beat the visiting Vane Tempest by 78 shots to 71.

Witton Gilbert moved five points clear at the top of the Third Division following a maximum win over Kelloe and a six points win over Fishburn Club. Wheatley Hill jumped into second place, seven points ahead of Murton following their whitewash success at Newton Hall, who just lost by 74 shots to 67 but failed to take a point.

Cockton Hill clinched the league Championship title when they completed their 12 consecutive victory with a whitewash success over King George V. Sherburn Village also clinched the runners-up spot following their two good victories, one at home to Mainsforth and the other at Dean Bank A.

Relegation from the First Division has been opened out after Shildon Railway A won their second consecutive game by a maximum score, meaning that the relegation issue will only be decided in their last game against Sherburn Village and in the match between Langley Park and King George V.

The Second Division is more complex with Willington moving to the top, three points ahead of Wolsingham, who took over the second spot following Crook Glenholme's surprise defeat at Spennymoor. Glenholme entertain Wolsingham in the final match, with Willington visiting Bishop Auckland, who desperately need points to avoid the drop.

Cockton Hill B lead the Third Division but have two extra matches played over Langley Park A, who are only four points behind, and Shildon Town, who are only eight adrift.

East Park A remain favourites to win the A Division championship after their 2-2 draw against Dene A with games in hand and a favourable run-in only some surprise results will stop them.

The relegation position is more interesting with only two points separating the bottom three positions. Crunch games between Hundens, their rivals North Lodge and North Park could well decide the issue while MSG are not yet safe.

In the B Division South Park B hold the advantage but with a game in hand and the leaders to play, Barnard Castle could still take the championship. Woodland B have an outside chance but need four good results to be involved. Middelton-St-George and Woodland C are fighting each other to avoid the wooden spoon.
