DETECTIVES are keen to trace anyone who may have seen a vicious assault in which a man was left with a fractured skull.
The victim was set upon by a gang of youths as he walked along Toward Street, in Sunderland, at about 9.25pm on Wednesday.
He was approached by the gang, one of whom punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground.
He was taken to Sunderland Royal Infirmary but was later transferred to Newcastle General Hospital.
Two people are helping police with their enquiries, but anyone who saw anything is urged to contact Sunderland City CID, on 0191-454 7555
