A COMPUTER system designed by a local expert to reduce police paperwork will be showcased at an international event.

Cleveland Police computer expert Tom Keegan, who heads the force's technical support unit, spent two years fine-tuning the software.

It allows staff to monitor equipment and provides data on the use of technical support in police operations, drastically reducing the need to wade through paperwork.

The original version took a prize in the Police Foundation Software Author's Awards and caught the attention of the Middlesbrough firm Imaging Management Systems.

The firm has since linked up with the police to offer the software to forces throughout the country and abroad.

Next month, it will feature in the national Technical Support Unit Conference in Newcastle, which attracts computer experts from all over the world.
