HARTLEPOOL United manager Chris Turner last night secured the services of Middlesbrough winger Anthony Ormerod in a month's loan deal.

After a disappointing start to the season, made worse by Tuesday's 1-0 defeat at home to Cheltenham, second-bottom Pool have won just one of their first seven Division Three matches.

And Turner has been trying to inject new blood into his side to help them ensure they turn the corner after a run that has seen them fail to win in their last five league games.

Pacy right-midfielder Ormerod, who joins at a time when centre-back Chris Westwood has been ruled out for six weeks after undergoing a hernia operation yesterday, is expected to provide the ammunition for the club's goal-shy strikers.

And new teammate James Sharp believes Ormerod, impressive in second-string outings against Notts County and Leeds United, will prove to be a worthy addition to the Pool squad.

The 25-year-old said: "We have seen him quite a bit around training and playing for the reserves and I think he will be a great acquisition.

"He is a player with a hunger to do well and he is going to cause problems for the defenders.

"We have been lacking that recently and Ian Clark has not been playing either, so the introduction of Ormerod should give us that extra bit of pace."

Pool have scored only five goals during the current campaign - three of which came in the win at Shrewsbury Town.

Striker Kevin Henderson, who needed three stitches to a head wound sustained against Cheltenham, is expected to recover in time to face fellow strugglers Kidderminster at Victoria Park on Saturday.

But Graeme Lee is doubtful after picking up an ankle injury.

That means with skipper Michael Barron already out (toe) Gordon Simms and Sharp are in line to start their first game together at the heart of the Pool backline.

And Sharp insists: "I'm sure we will do well together if we play. We have played together for the reserves and done well so I'm confident we will be able to keep things tight at the back.

"Simmsy is a good defender and I'm sure he will be hoping to take his chance in the team, just as I have. But we'll have to wait and see because I'm sure there will be changes."

Sharp is confident Pool can soon climb back up the table, saying: "Once we have scored one goal I think we will be away.

"We just need to get back into the winning habit and make sure we prepare ourselves right for Saturday.

"If we can beat Kidderminster, which I'm sure we can, then the confidence will come back."

* England's stunning 5-1 victory in Germany has helped push Sven-Goran Eriksson's side into the world's top-ten teams.

England are now ranked ninth in the world in FIFA's official rankings, the first time they have been in the top ten since April 1999.

Germany have tumbled out of the elite sides and are now ranked 12th, after falling seven places. England had been ranked 15th.
