Executive Cup

PLAYED on an extremely wet day at Harrogate golf club, members of the Executive together with Vice and Past Presidents managed to enjoy the company in spite of the weather.

With 38 Stableford points, Team Captain Chris Longthorne, carried off the Trophy for the year.

Other prize-winners: 2nd, 31 points George Hewison (Bedale), 30 points Barry Martin (Harrogate).

Team C won the Team Prize who were Ian Chippendale, Geoff. Batterbee, Bernard Ellse & Maurice Whorley.

Following the golf, members enjoyed an excellent dinner.

Acrill Press Player of the Year

To complete his excellent season, Neil Fegan (Harrogate) has become the winner of the Trophy with 51 points.

Autumn Greensome & Holroyd Trophy

Presented by MS Holroyd in memory of his father in 1969, this is the only Greensome event in the Union Calendar, played at Pannal on a cold and damp Sunday with the course in excellent condition.

The winners come from Masham Golf club, who have not previously won this competition, and it is good for the smallest Club in the Union to win another competition this season, having previously carried off the Seniors' Competition played at Bedale.

Leading scores: 68 George Furby (11) and John Zelinka (10) Masham, 68 Chris Blunden (4) and Richard Blunden (20) Oakdale, position decided on countback, 69 David Firth (8) and Nick Dodsworth (10) Knaresborough, 69 Terry Stevenson (13) and Paul Revell (13) Knaresborough, again position decided on countback, 70 Alan Green (19) and John Langley (12) Harrogate.

The Best Gross of 79 was played by the Otley pair Dave Thompson and Martin Lavers.

Bedale

The Forbes Trophy

The format of this competition has changed over the years but has now been established as a pairs Stableford for the Trophy presented by the late David Forbes to mark the Captaincy of his wife Joan in 1977.

Leading players and scores: 46 points John Gatenby and Barrie Dickens, 45 points Julie Standen and Dawn Luttrell, 43 points Tony Phillips and Mike Ingram.

The winners of the various monthly Divisions during the season played for the ultimate top spot

Results, Division One: 70 Tim Waters (6), 74 Simon Griffiths (4) and Ian Morris (7) position decided on countback, 75 Ian Smith (4). Division Two - 71 John Carr (14) and Stephen Scott (17) position decided on countback, 78 Andrew Bailey (12), 79 Ken Godden (16). Division Three - 74 Arthur Richmond (20), 76 Robert Payne (21), 77 Peter Manning (20), 79 Neville Taylor (20).

President's Putter

Played in windy conditions the competition in Medal format was won with a score of 72 by Mavis Burton (12) closely followed with 73 by Isobel Brown (23).

A good turnout for the last medal of the season with the best gross a 79 played by Julia Doughty, who did not figure in the prizes in this nett competition.

Division Two - 74 Kathleen Tate (28), 76 Janet Sunley (25) and Dorothy Hill (2), 77 Norma Butterworth (28) position decided on countback. Division Three - 71 Margaret Ritchie (29), 74 Valerie Sutton (36), 75 Margaret Rewison (29).

Seniors outing

An away day at Aldwark Manor for the Seniors who had the pleasure of having Club Captain George Hewison for the day.

Results, - 18 hole Stableford: 40 points Alec Crow, 35 points John Weedon, 34 points Tony Howard. Best front nine 18 points Cedric Tideswell. Best Back Nine - 14 points, Bill Coom.

Seniors Stableford

Another Friday morning competition for the elderly golfers

Results: 38 points Bill Coom (16), 37 points Dennis Powers (19), 35 points Roy Hart (18) and Maurice Keane (18), position again decided on countback.

Juniors

The last Medal of the season resulted in Matthew Johnson not only returning the Best Gross but also winning the competition when his handicap was taken into consideration.

Results: 72 Matthew Johnson (18), 73 Alexander Johnson (29), 80 Sophie Johnson (33), 82 Scott Petrie (18).

Dales Alliance

The second round of the autumn competition took place at Blackwell Grange. Home course advantage did not favour the Blackwell team who had to be content with joint second place with Bedale albeit by only one point from Crook.

Scores and placings: 191 points Crook. 190 points Bedale and Blackwell Grange. 182 points Thirsk and Northallerton. 178 points Catterick Garrison.

Catterick Garrison were in the lead by 14 points, but this has now been reduced to one point with Crook hard on their heels.

Prize winners: 44 points D Green and S Laccy (Richmond). Also A Potts and D Hughes (Crook) card countback, 43 points K Ward and P Kirbitson (Bedale). 41 points D Hanlon and S Turnbull (Crook).

Overall position: 1511 points Catterick Garrison; 1510 points Crook; 1498 points Bedale; 2454 points Blackwell Grange; 1426 points Richmond and 1416 points Thirsk and Northallerton.

Romanby

The recorded success in the Bainbridge Shield inter-club competition after their final match with Bedale was halved.

The drawn match meant a 2 point win in the Shield.

The following day Bedale's A Bayston won the Bainbridge Shield Am-Am at Romanby.

Bayston, who finished on 88 points, saw off the challenge from joint second placed G Kemp (Romanby) and J Gatenby (Bedale).

M Edmondson (Bedale) and R Helliwell (Thirsk and Northallerton) finished joint fourth.

In the Gerrard Investment Management Specialist Corporate Day, Henry Hudson (Saltburn) achieved a hole in one on the seventh hole at Romanby's 251 yards Par four.
