Charity Shield Second Round

GARY Harkness shot Heworth Christian Fellowship into a five-minute lead at Airport Church, but Glenn Wanless tied the match on the half hour.

Two minutes in to the second half Heworth restored the lead with Nick Rowlings scoring. A 30-yard shot on the angle from Andrew Roberts squared the match again.

And in the last ten minutes Kris Lawton got between two defenders to push the ball home to give Airport a 3-2 win.

Yarm Emmanuel travelled to Gosforth to play Jesmond Parish Athenians, but they returned with a 4-3 defeat.

St Aiden's Chapel Castington went to Middlesbrough Baptist and a goal in each half from Vinny Richards gave Saints a 2-0 win.

Jesmond Parish Church welcomed keeper Ian McIver back after injury and there were no jitters for him as he only let in one Hartlepool Stranton Saints effort from Andrew Elsdon.

Kieron McGane and Andy Widdrington gave Jesmond a 2-1 lead at the break. Tom Digby, Matthew Flenley and a second strike from Widdrington rounded off a 5-1 win - they now host St Aiden's Chapel Castington.

Metro Church Sunderland were leading 1-0 at half-time from Simon Normandale's strike against St Peter's Low Fell.

They increased their lead with Ryan Pender getting a brace and Jon Lumb and Lee Craig also found the net. Sammy Charlton scored a pair for St Peter's as Metro won 5-2.

Bethshan Christian Centre and Ryton Churches forced a penalty shoot-out in their cup clash.

Damian Parr and Chris Thompson gave Bethshan a 2-1 lead with Steven Gilmour scoring for Ryton. After the break Mark Langdown stretched the lead but two strikes from Steven Gilmour ensured extra time. Michael McKenna gave Ryton the lead, but Jon Connop squared the match. Ryton won the shoot-out won 3-0 and are now home to Metro Church Sunderland in the quarters.

Bethany Christian Centre played host to Monkwearmouth Christian FC and a goal from Dale Reid for the former, while Monkwearmouth scored two from Den Hodgeson and Chris Bolt to win 2-1.

Stakeford Methodist Church took a 2-0 lead from Mel Dixon and Chris Scott away at Whitley Bay Churches, but Whitley Bay's Paul Worsdale, Ian Wallace and Jeff Turnbull each scored to steal the match 3-2 and now are at home to Monkwearmouth Christian FC.

Emergency Services League

EASINGTON WMC had a flying start to the season scoring 20 unanswered goals in two matches, but they have not had to play against 11 men yet.

Their second victims were nine-man Sedgefield. Neil Robinson bagged a hat-trick while two Paul Foote hat-trick's and one from Keith James completed the 10-0 scoreline.

Durham HQ continue to surprise everyone as they maintained their unbeaten start to the season.

Ian Bell had given Durham Fire Brigade a well earned half-time lead, but Gordon Stuart's men turned it around in the second half. Steve Rooney (2), Andy Guest, Lee Cooke and Mick Sutton got the goals.

Newcastle West Police remain unbeaten with a well deserved 4-2 win at Durham and Chester-le-Street Police.

Dave Oakes scored all four goals to take his early season total to seven.

Frankland stay top of their third straight win and no goals conceded. Their beat Washington Police whom they beat 4-0. Ian Gibson, Phil McVay, Graham Earl and Richie Huskinson got the goals.

Stockton remain unbeaten after their 4-2 win over Sunderland Saints. Mick Higgin (2), Jimmy Walton and Noel Young got the Stockton goals while Ian Stephen and Craig Murray got Saints' goals.

Langbaurgh Police have made a decent start winning their second match beating Darlington 3-1. Matt Lymer, Hugh Doherty and Darren Higney got the goals with Jeff Summerhill's goal of little consolation to Darlington.
