A University was so impressed by twins Sarah and Liz Partington they gave a job meant for one person to both of them.

Sarah and Liz, 29, applied for the job of sports psychology lecturer.

But when officials at Northumbria University matched up their credentials they were unable to choose between the pair so they let them share the post.

Liz and Sarah became interested in psychology while they were pupils at St Hilary School near their home in Alderley Edge, Cheshire.

After each netting nine GCSEs and four A-levels they both studied psychology at Exeter University where they completed a master's degree in sport and exercise psychology.

So it was no surprise that they fancied the same job at Northumbria University in Newcastle.

The pair, who also work as psychologists to future sports stars for the National Badminton Association, sent off their applications separately.

After studying their applications and interviews the university could not choose between the two so offered the job to them both.

Sarah and Liz began teaching a BA honours degree in sports science this week.

Sarah, who shares a house with her sister in Newcastle, said: "We applied for the job hoping one of us might have had a chance.

"We never expected us both to get it." Liz said: "When the university got in touch and said they wanted us both and would we do a job share we couldn't believe our luck."
