A concert by the Harlem Gospel Choir, from New York, is going ahead as planned at Newcastle Opera House tomorrow.
Rumours that the event had been cancelled in the wake of the New York terrorist attack were untrue, said spokesman Jim Semmence.
"There were doubts about making the trip across the Atlantic, but the choir has renamed its visit as the We Shall Overcome tour," he said.
"They are dedicating all shows in tribute to those who suffered in New York, with the hymn of the same name added to their repertoire. This is obviously an emotional situation for the band and we are expecting a good turnout of North-East music fans to support them."
The choir has already made several UK appearances, including London and Leeds.
Tickets are available from the box office on 0191-232 0899 or the website www.newcastleoperahouse.com
