THE new film from Billy Elliot writer Lee Hall will have a regional premiere in Newcastle on Monday.

Sean Landless, the 15-year-old Sunderland schoolboy who stars in the £3m movie, will be among the cast of Gabriel And Me at the special screening at the Tyneside Cinema.

He will be joined by other cast members including Newcastle-born actress Rosie Rowell, young East Is East star Jordan Routledge and director Udayan Prasad.

Star of the film, comedian Billy Connolly, is not expected to be there.

Gabriel And Me, based on Hall's prize-winnnig radio play I Luv You Jimmy Spud, tells of a boy who wants to become an angel so he can help his dying father.

Connolly plays the Archangel Gabriel, whose holy help he enlists.

The film was shot partly on location in the North-East last year.

The world premiere screening took place at this summer's Edinburgh International Film Festival.

The makers are hoping Gabriel And Me will be as big a hit as Billy Elliot, which became one of the most successful British films of all time.

The film goes on general release on November 2.
