A DISABILITY awareness project marked its third anniversary with a celebration of achievement.

The Dimensions Disability Initiative, run by Darlington Association on Disability in partnership with Darlington Borough Council, also launched its new Millennium project during a celebratory exhibition at West Lodge in the town yesterday.

In the past three years, members have accessed a wide range of learning opportunities and exhibits of work, included catering, computer literacy, arts and crafts, British sign language, woodcrafts and ceramics.

There have also been successes in finding employment for members.

The new project to raise disability awareness in Darlington, called New Dimensions, is funded from a Millennium award called Give it a Go.

Nick Hindle and Jonathan Marriner are running the project, which will involve two- hour presentations on awareness issues.

The presentations are for schools, colleges, businesses, or anyone who wants them, and can be tailored to whichever issues the group wishes to raise.

Councillor Bill Dixon, of Darlington Borough Council, opened the exhibition, and Mayor Isobel Hartley gave the welcome and attended an awareness presentation.

Service coordinator Rosemary Berks said: "It has been a really successful day. We have had people here from all different organisations and businesses in the area."

Anyone who wishes to receive a presentation, or who wants to join Dimensions, can contact (01325) 254841.
