Rock bottom Harlow sprang a major surprise when they toppled champions Moortown in the Kall Kwik Harrogate and District Squash League's First Division.

Tom Ellis, who plays Premiership Yorkshire League Squash for Chapel Allerton, won at second string while Steve Smith took victory at no 3. Ross Kneller, who has recently joined the side from Harrogate Squash Club, played at first string but lost 3-0.

Newcomers Scott Hall stay on top following their 2-1 away victory at Ilkley. They have 47 points from four victories in five matches. Second are Moortown on 37 points (three wins in five) and third are Harrogate Squash on 35 points with three wins in as many matches.

Harrogate Squash, just two points behind Moortown in third place, defeated Adel 2-1 at home. Their only defeat came at third string where Nigel Heward lost 3-2 after taking the opening game without dropping a point.

Hambleton Ales North Yorkshire League

Championship-chasing Bedale were left idle in Division One when Harrogate Squash II failed to raise a side.

There was surprise that the biggest club in the league were unable to muster three players. But the call-off did not cause Bedale to lose their place at the head of the table.

They stay there with 52 points (four wins out of five).

Harlow are second with 30 points from two victories in four outings. Wensleydale II have 23 points in third place, winning only one of their four fixtures.

Meanwhile Harrogate Squash Club's first team found no problem in meeting their fixture at home to Wensleydale II and won the clash 2-1.

Simon Myring beat Keith Parlour 9-2, 9-2 10-9 and Mark Harding defeated Richard Phillips 9-1, 10-9, 9-1 to give Harrogate victory.

Their only defeat came when Dave Townsend lost to Alec Laing 3-9, 2-9, 9-7, 2-9.

Harlow moved into second place beating Knaresborough 2-1 away with the following scores (Knaresborough names first): James Lambley lost to Tom Ellis 2-9, 2-9, 5-9; Gary Hatch lost to Dave McGrath 9-2, 1-9, 6-9, 1-9; Matt Copeman beat Rob Cunningham 7-9, 9-5, 9-4, 5-9, 9-5.

In Division Two Bedale II lost their unbeaten record this term going down 2-1 at home to Wensleydale III.
