A MARKET trader, who bounced back from a heart attack, has said farewell to fellow stall holders at a North Yorkshire market after almost 20 years.
Bob Barkley, known as "The Sweet Man'', suffered a heart attack six months ago, but was back at Richmond's Indoor Market as soon as possible.
However, he has decided to call it a day, although he is finding it hard to come to terms with his decision.
"It is a sad day for me," he said. "I have lived and breathed Richmond Market Hall for so long it is hard to imagine I won't be coming to work here any more."
Mr Barkley first set up his stall in 1982, after spending his £500 savings on sweets to sell at markets. He chose sweets as he thought there would always be a market for them, even among adults.
Sweet peas are likely to be his line in future, as Mr Barkley plans to spend more time in his garden - with a flower pot among the leaving gifts from traders at Richmond.
CAPTION: Mr Barkley receives a retirement gift from Richmond Indoor Market greengrocer Jacqui Chritie.
