MUSICIANS from two Teesside schools have been selected to play at London's Royal Albert Hall.

The recorder ensemble from Teesside High School, in Eaglescliffe, and Egglescliffe School orchestra have been picked to play at the Music for Youth Schools Prom next week.

The concerts are aimed at celebrating the achievements and talents of Britain's best young performers. More than 3,000 young musicians, aged from six to 21, from across Britain will perform at the Proms, from November 5 to 7.

Twenty girls from Teesside High School perform on Monday and 30 Egglescliffe School students play on Tuesday.

Teesside High School will perform A Curious Suite, a work based on Alice in Wonderland and commissioned by the school, and Egglescliffe Orchestra, on its seventh appearance at the Proms since 1994, will play Restoration Dances and the Radetsky March.

The celebrations start at 7pm each evening with a brass fanfare and finish with balloons, streamers and fireworks while a full symphony orchestra plays.

In view of the events of September 11, the audience will be invited to join in singing words, written specially for the occasion, in tribute.

Guest presenters Diane Louise Jordan and Richard Stilgoe will lead the three evenings' performances.
