A WOMAN who was abandoned in a phone box as a two-day-old has launched a poster campaign in an attempt to trace her mother.

Jane Doe was found in Darlington, County Durham, on July 26, 1951, in a phone box at the junction of Brinkburn Road and Major Street.

An article printed in The Northern Echo last year helped trace the man who found her, but she is no closer to finding her mother.

Jane believes her mother was living in Darlington when she gave birth, but could have been sent to the town to stay with a relative when she fell pregnant.

Jane feels no resentment towards her mother and simply wants to find out more about her.

To help her quest, she has produced posters appealing for information, which she has distributed in the Brinkburn Road area.

She said: "If my mum doesn't want to know me, then a simple phone call telling me to stop looking would be enough.

"I realise she may have moved on and got a whole new family. She may not want to tell about her past, but I am sure she has been wondering about me."
