A SENIOR North Yorkshire politician is appealing to the public to help make this year's Poppy Appeal one to remember.
The 2000 total broke records with more than £20m raised in the UK.
However, with British forces facing action in Afghanistan and the Royal British Legion celebrating its 80th anniversary, Richmondshire District Council chairman, Jane Metcalfe, said she hopes 2001 will see even more raised on the charity's behalf.
"Up to 15 million people are eligible to approach the legion for support and these families are affected by conflict, including those of the present day," she said.
"It is a vital cause and I am proud to support the Poppy Appeal. I hope everyone will help by wearing a poppy and making a donation."
