BUDGET airline Go could increase flights from the North-East following the phenomenal success of its new Newcastle to London Stansted service.

The independent operator has taken 20,000 bookings in four weeks for the service since stepping in to replace the collapsed Gill Air.

It begins twice daily services to Stansted today with thousands of passengers taking advantage of an introductory £10 flight offer.

Go says it is "staggered" by demand for tickets. And it is has indicated that it may add more flights and destinations from Newcastle.

David Magliano, Go's sales and marketing director, said there was a strong possibility it would seek to expand from Newcastle next year.

He said: "There is potential to add to our flights and destinations and we wouldn't have come in to the North-East if we didn't think there was scope to do so."

Go is retaining its £10 one-way fare offer to Stansted until December 16.

It also intends to go head-to-head with train operator GNER for the London market with fares starting at £30 return.
