North Yorkshire Police will receive an extra £1m to cover the cost of policing protests at two military bases, Home Secretary David Blunkett announced today.
The money will be given to force following protests at RAF Menwith Hill and RAF Fylingdales.
Mr Blunkett said: "People have a right to peaceful protest but there is a cost attached which unfortunately the taxpayer has to bear.
"I am determined that the people of North Yorkshire should not suffer as a result.
"We are therefore making an extra £1 million available to help North Yorkshire Police maintain the level of service which the community rightly expects in terms of tackling crime and disorder and providing reassurance."
Mr Blunkett was in Bedale, North Yorkshire where he was on the beat with PC Malcolm Young.
