The top two met and Earl of Warwick lost their unbeaten record against new leaders Howden Australian. After Howden led 1-0, Anthony Bailes equalised and it was 1-1 at half time. The second half belonged to Howden who went on to win 4-1 with goals from John Stephenson, Kevin Burke, David Wilkinson and Paul Davison.

A Stephen Bradwell own goal gave Wearhead United the lead at Willington Cottles. Goals from Peter Franks and Wayne Fleming turned the game round for Cottles before half time. In the second half Franks netted a penalty and Richard Breen scored a fourth for Willington.

Tow Law Cattle Mart suffered a heavy home defeat losing 10-1 to Crook Wanderers. Barry Thompson and Wayne Coverdale both scored hat-tricks for the winners whose other goals came from Michael Sanderson (2), Lee Morton and Chris Pounder. Malcolm Umpleby replied for Tow Law.

Stanhope Town beat Byers Green St Peters 4-2 in a Colin Waites Trophy second leg and go through 5-4 on aggregate. Rob O'Dell grabbed a hat-trick for the winners and a fourth came from David Kirwin. Shaun Nicholson, and Chris Pickles replied for St Peters.

Matthew Tyrie gave Bishop Rugby Club the lead in a first round tie at White Swan but Michael Jewitt equalised. David Patterson restored the Rugby Club lead and two penalties from Clive Treby made it 4-1.

Ithe first round of the McGrath Trophy last year's finalists Derwentside Police and Frankland turned the tables and put the holders out. Richard Knott lobbed the keeper midway through the first half to give Frankland the lead. Kevin Maddison converted a penalty to equalise after he had been fouled. In the second half Geoff Rassan made it 2-1 and then saw his wayward shot deflected in for 3-1. Sub mark Jones scored with a late tap in to wrap things up. Frankland face Durham and Chester-le-Street in round two.

Langbaugh had a comprehensive 6-1 win over hapless Sedgefield. Matt Lymer (2), Mick Campbell, Paul Gordon, Darren Henry and Alistair Lancaster got the goals. Even Sedgefield's goal was an own goal. Langbaurgh face Washington who go through as Darlington could not turn out a team.

Stockton Police were comfortable 5-1 winners over Sunderland Saints. Mick Higgin scored twice and was man of the match. Sean Close, Noel Young and Liam Denny got the other goals. Craig Murray's goal for Saints was his ninth of the season. Stockton don't know their opponents yet as Easington and Durham Fire was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Durham HQ and Newcastle West got first round byes but were drawn against each other in round two so they played that tie. HQ were 4-2 winners recording a seventh straight win in the process. Tony Insall scored another hat-trick to take his tally to 12 goals in four games. Steve Rooney got the other goal. Newcastle's goal came from Keith Smith and Paul Hewitson while Dave Purvis was man of the match.

Stanley and District Sunday League

A marked change in the Black Bull after their 10-0 defeat last week, Black Bull narrowly lost 2-1 to Grange Villa WMC.

Goals from Ian Pinchen for Grange Villa and Alan Fulthorpe for Black Bull.

Blue Boar Tavern played local rivals Masons Arms YCOB and won 9-2. Goals from Derek Parking (3), Graham Kendall (3), Lee Cariss (2) and Martin Pritchar with Ty Swan and Colin Stobbard replying for the Masons Arms.

Board Inn played Pelton Newfield Inn who have started to get their league form together at last, goals from Jon Kelly (2), Russell Bell and Shaun Summers for Newfield with Peter Turner scoring twice for the Board Inn.

In the Stanley Aged Miners Cup there was mixed fortunes for Stanley league clubs.

Pelton Fell WMC losing at Pack Horse by 5-2, George Middlemiss scoring two for the Fell who had their goalkeeper sent off after one minute for handling just outside the penalty area.

Fleece Inn played Lintz CC at home and lost by 4-3.

Scotch Arms lost by the same score at home to Delves Club.

Stanley RAFA played local rivals Stanley Central at Kings Head. Despite going a goal down RAFA hit back to win the tie by 3-2.

Tony Quinn (2) and Paul Liddle scoring for the RAFA to put them into round three.

South Moor Sports had a walkover due to their opponents disbanding before the tie.
